We first met Ms. Ginny Villegas, freelance image consultant and all around fashion expert, when she explained to us the importance of body types and finding the right clothes to fit them. And now she’s back with more tips for your wardrobe. In her talk entitled “Color Fashion” last November 13, 2010 at Tahilan Residence and Study Center, Ms. Villegas shows budding fashionistas that the color wheel is no longer just for art lessons.
She started out by talking about the different colors on the wheel and how some look well together while other combinations look like a disaster. Complementary colors such as blue and orange or yellow and violet can be worn together but maybe in less solid hues and shades. Then, she differentiated the warm from the cool colors. For warm colors, think orange, brown, yellow. While for the more icy side, think blue, gray, and silver. “Which colors should I wear?” you ask. Well, Ms. Villegas says it all depends on your skin undertone. There are two main skin undertones- yellow and blue. Warm colors make yellow undertones even more radiant while cool colors bring out blue undertones. Get a few cloth swatches and try to match them with your skin to find out your undertone.
This may all sound too confusing to consider when dressing up. But don’t despair. It just takes a little practice. Don’t be afraid to try things out and before you know it, you’re a walking masterpiece.
